Art by the talented
He was reluctant to let go of her.
The only woman he ever loved.
And who loved him in return.

But as fate would have it, the two would not be meant to be.

It was a beautiful summer morning. The inchoate sun stretching out into the sky; a glittering jewel of fantastic light. It dawned ever so majestically over Asiyah.

And then there was something not so majestic. Or rather someone.

The half-demonling sprawled in his sleep, snoring loudly. Light beams emanating from the sun graced his closed eyelids. He groaned and shielded his tiresome eyes with a pillow.

"Rise and shine Rin," his bright and early roommate said.

Rin grunted unwillingly. But his roommate wasn't keen on letting him sleep. As class rep, he condoned that behavior. He pulled out an air horn and blew it in Rin's ear. Rin's eyes snapped open and he woke with a start.

"What the hell Yukio?! You could've made me go deaf in one ear!"

"That wasn't the desired effect, now was it?" Yukio replied sensibly.

"Yeah whatever. Go make me some grub."

"Yes Your Royal Grumpiness."

The Okumura twins went down to the dorm kitchen. Yukio immediately took out ingredients from the cupboards. The way he prepared the food made it look like a full course meal. He and Rin congregated at the dining table. The two schoolboys ate, making conversation all the while.

"You've quite the appetite Rin. *Makes me wonder how you'd fare as a samurai."
*He is alluding to the fact that samurai eat rice and stand by honor; It was meant as a harmless comment; Also a Samurai 7 reference

"A samurai? Please, Yukio. I have my own code."

"And what would that be?"

"The only person that should dictate what you do is yourself."

"Yet your allegiance is to being an exorcist," Yukio absolved.

"Which I chose to do. Seriously Yukio, I didn't join a cult."

Yukio left the debate at that. The brothers cleared the table, changed into their school uniforms and headed for the cram school. Rin sat in his usual seat. Yukio took his place in front of the class as the instructor. "Good morning students," he said as he did everyday. "Good morning Mr. Okumura," the exoires beamed. As the lesson began, Rin noticed one of his classmates was absent. A certain girl he fell hopelessly in love with: [F/n] [L/n]. Rin was going into panic when the door flew open. She strode into the room, well at least in Rin's mind, with his preset perfect image of her.

"Sorry I'm late Mr. Okumura!" [F/n] said anxiously.

"Don't worry, [F/n]. Please take a seat."

She obeyed, sitting next to Shiemi. The shy blonde said "Hello [F/n]-chan." [F/n] returned the greeting with a bright smile then fixated her gaze to Yukio-sensei. The blue-haired demon went rigid; [F/n] made it difficult to focus on anything but her cute self. But he was drawn to more than her appearance. He and her were close friends. The other exoires (namely Suugaro and Poko-brow) would exploit his "romantic intent", when in reality, they were delusional asshats. Yet Rin couldn't help but wonder if [F/n] felt as strongly about him as he did her. . .

"Rin!"

"Huh?"

"Class is over."

Rin looked into [F/n]'s warm [e/c] eyes. He felt his face tinge with hotness. "Oh looks like it is."

She giggled, flustering Rin even more. "Usually you're the first one out the door."

"You didn't have to wait here you know," Rin said pointedly.

"And leave you staring into space? Not a chance *aoi-ke."
*'blue-hair'

'She's so cute when she calls me that.' "What would I do without you [F/n]."

Rin could've sworn she blushed. "Come on. I know you don't want to miss lunch."

The two companions sat outside the cafeteria in the lounge area. [F/n] shared her *bento with Rin. There were some others around but for the most part they were alone. They made conversation like friends do. But there was an unshakable tension lingering; it was mostly Rin's doing. Awkward laughs. Eyes darting. Talking too fast.
*bento is a boxed lunch consisting of rice and fish or meat

And then...the kiss.

That was entirely [F/n]'s doing. The contours of her lips found Rin's. Rin was motionless. Indecisive about his sudden dilemma.

'Crap, what do I do? Kiss her back, dumb ass!'

Although it would pander Rin greatly, he did not. He gently withdrew from [F/n]'s soft, heavenly lips.

"[F/n] I don't think we should um, do this."

"I'm sorry Rin."

[F/n] walked away, brokenhearted. Rin could tell she didn't want him to see her cry. He should have had the right mind to go back to her; he owed her that much. But he didn't. Two damn mistakes. Here he was sulking when he should have gone back to her.

'And do what? Take it all back? It's better off this way. She could never love a demon. Much less the son of Satan.'

If only he could sever those ties.

ALL. THE. FEELS. WHY DO YOU DO THIS AUTHOR-CHAN? DEPLORABLE. Tomoyo Sakagami (Crying) [V3]
Sorry reader-chans. There is no Disney ending to this one. I haven't even finished the series. But when inspiration strikes, the pen writes!
This is my first RinxReader. I tried to make the reader character more than just a girl next door. Please be kind (but I do empathize for skewing your dreams). O_o This will have another part. Or will it? (The answer is yes, I just didn't want to write it all at once, shame on me).
